So I’m back from my E3 binge to give some actual talk to the goings on in the world of Magic and dollar bills. This week we have a buyout on [mtg_card]Moat[/mtg_card] and people losing their minds over Eternal Masters foils.
Eternal Masters Foils
I’ve heard that quite a few dealers are beating themselves up for not ordering extra Eternal Masters boxes. They didn’t think customer demand was going to be there. Well, they would be wrong as most prospectors are proclaiming boxes will vanish by the end of summer and will likely be around $300. This demand is mostly because of the foils. To put it this way, [mtg_card]Force of Will[/mtg_card] foils are going for over $500, up $150 from the past week. Legacy and Commander staples that have never had a foil printing before are the lotto of Eternal Masters. If you managed to get your hands on a box, I’d hold onto that sucker. You can make good money here.
Eldritch Moon Prognostications
So there have been people speculating about Eldritch Moon on multiple levels. The big one is that a new Emrakul isn’t only in the set, but is going to be the Buy a Box promo. Something people should logically not actually expect to happen. The other thought is that if Emrakul is in the set, it’s quite likely that [mtg_card]Nahiri, the Harbinger[/mtg_card] will blow up more than it already has. Immediately, I’m inclined to agree that both a printing and a spike are likely. The problem is that we already have big bad Eldrazi to play with Nahiri in standard, and they aren't very good. So I don’t expect the initial spike will hold. So get in on hype, then sell hard.
Late edit: About 3 hours after I wrote this up, Wizards unveiled the new Emrakul. Not exactly what I expected, but pretty much around what I expected in terms of power level. My thoughts are that any bump to [mtg_card]Nahiri, the Harbinger[/mtg_card] caused by this would be even more questionable.
Other Notes
The major talking point this week is [mtg_card]Moat[/mtg_card]. An already very high priced reserve list card from a low print set (I think you know where this is going). The card went from 28 sellers on TCGPlayer down to 2 as of this morning. That is a buyout my friends. Will Moat ever go below $900 again? Maybe, but probably not. If whoever bought it out plays there cards right (Pun intended), Moat shouldn’t drop below $800. Not often I get to talk about a card increasing by over $.
[mtg_card]Thought Lash[/mtg_card] is another one of these random reserve list cards that spike despite having zero competitive play. It gets some play in Commander and fringe play in Laboratory Maniac insanity. If you have any, sell hard. This card isn’t going anywhere.
[mtg_card]Bridge from Below[/mtg_card] is picking up steam. It gets play in the new Modern Dredge deck that runs off of . It’s a legit play spike that should hold for a while. I probably wouldn’t sell just yet. The deck is primed for a big win soon-ish. I would look for this to spike then.
Last major card to talk about is [mtg_card]Day’s Undoing[/mtg_card]. If I had spent more than 10 minutes on last week’s article, this would have come up. Some speculators thought the card had gotten way too low for a possible broken Power-Nine-like card. Then the card shows up in Standard inside this weird Mono-Blue Prison deck. Not exactly what the speculators thought, but they still think the card is likely a key to some unknown broken Modern or Legacy combo and have started investing into it. You might be a little late on this bandwagon, but at $4 it may not be a bad buy. I’m 50/50 on it myself It’s not a risk I think worth taking with my money, but if it hits, I expect it to hit big.
