002 - $5.71

[mtg_card]Decimator of the Provinces[/mtg_card] - 10

Creature - Boar Eldrazi - Mythic

Emerge 6GGG

When you cast Decimator of Provinces, creatures you control get +2/+2 and trample until end of turn.

Trample, Haste

7/7

Initial Thoughts:

Tok: So its [mtg_card]Overrun[/mtg_card] minus 1 on a 7/7 trample haste body? That should win some games. Gonna be interesting to see how emerge plays with this guy. Turn 3-4 cast [mtg_card]Pia and Kiran Nalaar[/mtg_card], Turn 4-5 Sac Mom and Pop Nalar into Emerge Decimator of the Provinces for 2GGG swing for 13?

Hidsnake: This is bad. Bulk rare.

H: I mean mythic. More depressing.

T: I think we may see it in Standard which is depressing

H: The only thing that gives it hope for play is that it has Haste. Since it has Haste, you are still netting more damage with smaller Overruns.

Financial Thoughts:

H: Over $5 is too much. I’ve come around from my initial thoughts that this isn’t outright bad. But it’s not a 4x in any deck. So holding above $5 will be difficult. Wouldn’t pay more than $4.

T: It’s crappy [mtg_card]Craterhoof Behemoth[/mtg_card]. I think it may see play in decks that can put a bunch of dorks on the ground just, never as a 4 of. I wouldn’t pay more than $2.

005 - $5.32

[mtg_card]Elder Deep-Fiend[/mtg_card] - 8

Creature - Eldrazi Octopus - Rare

Flash

Emerge 5UU (You may cast this spell by sacrificing a creature and paying the emerge cost reduced by that creature's converted mana cost.)

When you cast Elder Deep-Fiend, tap up to four target permanents.

5/6

Initial Thoughts:

Tok: Forever Elder Deep-Fried. Flashing in a 5/6 and tapping down 4 permanents sounds good. Wonder if Emerge is a thing or you just cast this guy for 8?

Hidsnake: This is probably one those cards that gets a lot of unexpected play. See [mtg_card]Drowner of Hope[/mtg_card].

Financial Thoughts:

H: This card is getting quite a bit of hype. I know people are thinking sacing [mtg_card]Matter Reshaper[/mtg_card] and chaining off more Elder Deep-Fiends off that. Flash makes this a little too good. Hard for me to judge price. Could hold at $5, could jump to $7-$8. Worth noting this compares very well to [mtg_card]Mistbind Clique[/mtg_card], a key component in Monoblue Fairies decks.

T: If people want to sac Matter Reshaper I hope it works (So I can cash out my Matter Reshapers…). I would shell out $5 for some, but I don’t expect it to go higher than that.

H: I know many pros are very high on this card, because of the ability to chain them into one another than hit for 5. It’s very strong.

006 - $15.05

[mtg_card]Emrakul, the Promised End[/mtg_card] - 13

Legendary Creature - Eldrazi - Mythic

Emrakul, the Promised End costs 1 less to cast for each card type among cards in your graveyard.

When you cast Emrakul, you gain control of target opponent during that player's next turn. After that turn, that player takes an extra turn.

Flying, trample, protection from instants.

13/13

Financial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: I honestly don’t see this going anyway. [mtg_card]Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger[/mtg_card] is just better for standard and [mtg_card]Emrakul, the Aeons Torn[/mtg_card] is better everywhere else. This could be a fun Commander card, but not one that is worth $15.

015 - $1.89

[mtg_card]Bruna, the Fading Light[/mtg_card] 5WW

Legendary Creature - Angel Horror - Rare

When you cast Bruna, the Fading Light, you may return target Angel or Human creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield.

Flying, vigilance

(Melds with Gisela, the Broken Blade.)

5/7

///

[mtg_card]Brisela, Voice of Nightmares[/mtg_card]

Legendary Creature - Eldrazi Angel - Mythic

Flying, first strike, vigilance, lifelink

Your opponents can’t cast spells with converted mana cost of 3 or less.

9/10

Initial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: On one hand, it costs 7CMC. On the other, it can reanimate [mtg_card]Gisela, the Broken Blade[/mtg_card] to make Brisela. Also, probably next to impossible to kill once flipped. How many kill spells over 3CMC do you play? I think it may see rare Standard and casual play but not much else.

Tok: [mtg_card]Tragic Arrogance[/mtg_card] or [mtg_card]Descend upon the Sinful[/mtg_card] maybe? You’re right, nothing targeted comes to mind. Seems like a good [mtg_card]Nahiri, the Harbinger[/mtg_card] target if that works the way I think it does…

Financial Thoughts:

H: Under $2 is a solid price for Commander play alone. I could see this at $4ish next year. I would stack up on foils you can pick up for under $6 if you can find any. Most look to be going for around $10. I am thinking this “could” see some standard play as a singleton. Gisela, the Broken Blade looks to be getting quite a bit of play in Standard as baby [mtg_card]Baneslayer Angel[/mtg_card]. Running just one is probably fair if the deck has a slot open.

017 - $2.68

[mtg_card]Collective Effort[/mtg_card] - 1WW

Sorcery - Rare

Escalate: Tap an untapped creature you control

*Destroy target creature with power 4 or greater

*Destroy target enchantment

*Put a +1/+1 counters on each creature target player controls

Initial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: So, it's kinda [mtg_card]Dromoka's Command[/mtg_card]? Ok, so it does a bunch of stuff. But at sorcery speed, none of these modes is particularly interesting.

Tok: Hmmmm. Can’t hit 3/X creatures which would have been cool.

Financial Thoughts:

H: Bulk. Is not Dromoka’s Command as it cost more and isn’t an instant. Unless you play tokens I wouldn’t play this card. And I wouldn’t play more than 2.

T: $2.68 is too high, but this card may be a thing after Dromoka’s Command rotates out of standard so if it drops I’ll pick some up.

H: It’s a sorcery. Not even close to serving the same uses as Dromoka’s Command.

T: Meh.

020 - $3.35

[mtg_card]Deploy the Gatewatch[/mtg_card] 4WW

Sorcery - Mythic

Look at the top seven cards of your library. Put up to two planeswalker cards from among them onto the battlefield. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.

Initial Thoughts:

Tok: Does superfriends want this? This seems good to be honest.

Financial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: LOL. Bulk. Unless you’re that guy playing the nothing but walkers decks in Commander. Would need to dig deeper to be any good.

T: $4 is too much. Should be bulk. I don’t think formats that play 100 card decks want this, but I stand by my superfriends remark. There just aren’t any superfriends decks and probably won’t be in standard for a while.

H: This isn’t [mtg_card]Collected Company[/mtg_card]. It’s Collected Company if you only had 15 creatures in your deck and all of them were legendary. Bulk. Casuals may drive it up, but it’s bad.

T: Didn’t say it was CoCo dude. Let me quote myself, “Should be bulk.” Digging 7 to put 1 planeswalker into play isn’t bad and putting 2 in play is great, but (as you said) the potential to wiff is very high. I said it seemed good in my initial thoughts because putting 2 planeswalkers into play at the same time does seem good at first glance. The high variance kills the card and it “Should be bulk” unless someone finds a way to limit that high variance of the card. Anyway let’s stop arguing when we both pretty much agree the card is bad.

028 - $25.50

[mtg_card]Gisela, the Broken Blade[/mtg_card] 2WW

Legendary Creature - Angel Horror - Mythic

Flying, first strike, lifelink

At the beginning of your end step, if you both own and control Gisela, the Broken Blade and a creature named Bruna, the Fading Light, exile them, then meld them into Brisela, Voice of Nightmares.

4/3

Initial Thoughts

Hidsnake: First strike and lifelink on a 4 power flyer seems good. The 3 toughness makes me wary. But at 4CMC this is probably a good card. Beats out [mtg_card]Archangel Avacyn[/mtg_card] in straight combat, but can be ambushed and killed by Archangel Avacyn. This is probably more playable in aggressive decks while Archangel Avacyn is better in control.

Financial Thoughts:

H: I mean it’s good, just not $25 good. Overall, Archangel Avacyn is better but this fits better in aggro. Unless it destroys Standard, I don’t see it being worth more than $12-$15.

Tok: Why is this one the mythic? Why aren’t both halves Mythic? I mean… just… $25 is too much.

H: Could you imagine how expensive this would be if both halves were mythic? That would be absurd as both halves would total to $40. Anyway, this one is mythic because it’s pretty freaking good. Unlike Bruna, the Fading Light.

030 - $0.39

[mtg_card]Sanctifier of Souls[/mtg_card] 3W

Creature - Human Cleric - Rare

Whenever another creature enters the battlefield under your control, Sanctifier of Souls gets +1/+1 until end of turn.

2W, Exile a creature card from your graveyard: Put a 1/1 white Spirit creature token with flying onto the battlefield.

2/3

Initial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: Looks bulk, but I would think popular casual or commander bulk. Worth noting, this can get really big really fast since it counts tokens.

Tok: It’s the intro deck rare so it’s already bulk because of that. Ability is solid though if he sticks around.

Financial Thoughts:

H: I doubt it will see any play, but tokens is a popular deck in Commander. This should fit well into that. But being in an intro deck will kill the price. Could go up, but don’t expect it to hit $1.

T: I don’t see this in any decks, not worth the $0.25 to get.

040 - $2.49

[mtg_card]Selfless Spirit[/mtg_card] 1W

Creature – Spirit – Rare

Flying

Sacrifice Selfless Spirit: Creatures you control gain indestructible until end of turn.

2/1

Initial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: I really like this. This is the kind of card that white weenies really wants. Protection from sweepers on a stick. That flies with 2 power at 2CMC. Not to mention it's a spirit, so can be defended by [mtg_card]Rattlechains[/mtg_card].

Financial Thoughts:

H: Good spirit that can defend against sweepers inside an aggro deck. Oh, has flying and a relevant creature type. A price of $2.50 is a tad high, but $2 could be right depending on how good spirits are.

046 - $7.50

[mtg_card]Thalia, Heretic Cathar[/mtg_card] 2W

Legendary Creature - Human Soldier - Rare

First strike

Creatures and nonbasic lands your opponents control enter the battlefield tapped.

3/2

Initial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: <3. I like for Modern Death and Taxes. Punishes awkward manabases to hell. Will admit, probably tough to play at 3CMC. Does have first strike so can beat down good.

Financial Thoughts:

H: This price is higher than [mtg_card]Gaddock Teeg[/mtg_card]. So no, do not buy, this price, is way too high. #Rhyming

Tok: I’ll give this one a bye, the price is likely to die, even if the price does fly, it won’t get too high before the end of July. #YouStartedIt

H: At least pick different rhymes than me bro.

T: Can do fam. This Thalia ma’am ain’t no flimflam scam, but she costs too many clams, the price is a sham, so you should wait for a goddamn grand slam.

H: Nice.

047 - $0.98

[mtg_card]Thalia's Lancers[/mtg_card] 3WW

Creature - Human Knight - Rare

First Strike

When Thalia's Lancers enters the battlefield, you may search your library for a Legendary card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle your deck.

4/4

Initial Thoughts:

Tok:
1) 5 mana is high
2) 4/4 First Strike is good
3) Is Human
4) Tutors any legendary card (no card type specified)
Probably good.

Hidsnake:
1) Ya
2) Ya, even at 5CMC
3) Meh
4) Very much so
Hard to say how much play this would get in constructed. I could have seen it singleton in [mtg_card]Birthing Pod[/mtg_card] to tutor up combos. I do expect this to get lots on play in Commander.

Financial Thoughts:

H: Buy now. This $1 price is dumb. Buy it out. This card is likely to get zero play in constructed outside some weird [mtg_card]Chord of Calling[/mtg_card] deck. But it will be in every single white Commander deck. It’s just an auto entry. This has potential to be a $10 in 2-3 years. I expect it to be around $5 once the print runs finish and copies start to vanish. Don’t forget this is a small expansion.

T: For less than $1 I’m game. The effect is cool and gets any legendary, not just creatures.

H: #BuyForCommander. There. I said it.

065 - $1.94

[mtg_card]Imprisoned in the Moon[/mtg_card] - 2U

Enchantment - Aura - Rare

Enchant creature, land, or planeswalker

Enchanted permanent is a colorless land with "T: Add ◊ to your mana pool" and loses all other card types and abilities.

Initial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: Blue [mtg_card]Song of the Dryads[/mtg_card]? That thing is a limited all-star. I'm not sure this will see much play in constructed, but it should be fun.

Financial Thoughts:

H: Outside of Monoblues, I don’t expect any play. A $2 price is a tad too much.

Tok: I think it fits in Bant too. I would look for it at $1.00-$1.50.

070 - $1.82

[mtg_card]Mind’s Dilation[/mtg_card] - 5UU

Enchantment - Mythic

Whenever an opponent casts his or her first spell each turn, that player exiles the top card of his or her library. If it's a nonland card, you may cast it without paying its mana cost.

Financial Thoughts:

H: Looks fun in Commander, and nowhere else. Might get a tiny bump from there. Shouldn’t get above $4.

Tok: Multiple opponent formats like Commander seem a good fit for this card and 7 mana is a bunch for not impacting the board. Best case, you hit their [mtg_card]Emrakul, the Promised End[/mtg_card] or something, worse and most frequent case it’s a land. I would buy 1-2 if it gets to $0.25 and sell if it gets play in commander.

H: What mythic has ever hit $0.25? You aren’t going to find this below $1.

T: I stand by my statement.

072 - $0.69

[mtg_card]Niblis of Frost[/mtg_card] - 2UU

Creature - Spirit - Rare

Flying, prowess

Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, tap target creature an opponent controls. That creature doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step.

3/3

Initial Thoughts:

Tok: I don't think this will push spirits into being an actual deck, but it’s the best intro pack rare I've seen in a while.

Hidsnake: I love this card and would be willing to build around it. [mtg_card]Rattlechains[/mtg_card] is really good.

Financial Thoughts:

H: It’s a bit pricy manawise to get a pile of play in tempo decks. I don’t expect much here. But I could be proven wrong.

T: I can get a playset for $1 and I think it could be fun to brew with so I’m in.

H: I see that logic. This is a powerful card if you can make it work.

085 - $2.15

[mtg_card]Collective Brutality[/mtg_card] 1B

Sorcery - Rare

Escalate - Discard a card. (Pay this cost for each mode beyond the first.)

Choose one or more -

* Target opponent reveals his or her hand. You choose an instant or sorcery card from it. That player discards that card.

* Target creature gets -2/-2 until end of turn.

* Target opponent loses 2 life and you gain 2 life.

Initial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: I like my utility cards. Discarding a card for Escalate makes this a bit tricky to play. I see it only really getting play in madness or graveyard strategy decks.

Tok: You could potentially two for one or two for none yourself easily with this card. Sorcery speed doesn’t help it. Could see play in Madness decks or graveyard strat decks like you said.

Financial Thoughts:

H: Too much at over $2. Not a bad card though. The format lacks significant discard spells.

T: I’m not a fan for over $1.

093 - $24.11

[mtg_card]Liliana, the Last Hope[/mtg_card] 1BB

Planeswalker - Liliana - Mythic

[+1]: Up to one target creature gets -2/-1 until your next turn.

[-2]: Put the top two cards of your library into your graveyard, then you may return a creature card from your graveyard to your hand.

[-7]: You get an emblem with "At the beginning of your end step, put X 2/2 black Zombie creature tokens onto the battlefield, where X is two plus the number of Zombies you control."

3 Loyalty

Initial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: This looks very....meh to me. Not impressed.

Tok: So. It’s Liliana at 3 cmc. Card was doomed to be overhyped from the start. I like her though, there are a few things in modern or legacy that she can kill such as [mtg_card]Dark Confidant[/mtg_card] (Theirs or your own).

Financial Thoughts:

H: Planeswalker tax’d. And does not meet the planeswalker tax price. It’s a build around with the -2 ability and has very few cards to work with for that strategy. Needs [mtg_card]Mulch[/mtg_card] in Standard. Nothing special here.

T: The 3 mana Lilly hype is high with this price. Not worth $25 in my opinion.

099 - $1.58

[mtg_card]Oath of Liliana[/mtg_card] - 2B

Legendary Enchantment - Rare

When Oath of Liliana enters the battlefield, each opponent sacrifices a creature.

At the beginning of each end step, if a planeswalker entered the battlefield under your control this turn, put a 2/2 black Zombie creature token onto the battlefield.

Initial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: Does Standard have any decent sac spells?

Tok: [mtg_card]To the Slaughter[/mtg_card]?

Financial Thoughts:

H: Hmmm. This one is tough. It might be a bit high or just right. It can feed in tokens in planewalker heavy strategies and act as a sac effect. Is it better than To the Slaughter? Probably not in a box. As a throw in to planeswalker decks, maybe. Also worth nothing, there aren’t really any decks a sac effect at 3CMC feels good in. This feel like too much right now, but I could be wrong 2-3 months from now or in later sets.

109 - $4.75

[mtg_card]Tree of Perdition[/mtg_card] - 3B

Creature - Plant - Mythic

Defender

Tap: Exchange target opponent's life total with Tree of Perdition’s toughness.

"There will be no absolution."

0/13

Initial Thoughts:

Tok: [mtg_card]Triskaidekaphobia[/mtg_card] 2 card combo. Flex yo judge muscles: If I put Tree's ability on the stack and somehow reduce toughness to 0 does the ability fizzle and if not what is my opponent's life total when it resolves?

Hidsnake: I'm pretty sure the ability fizzle. If you exchange toughness and life, that creature has to be in play, which it won't because of state based actions.

Editor’s Note: I took a second to actually confirm this is true. Works the same as [mtg_card]Tree of Redemption[/mtg_card].

“If Tree of Redemption isn’t on the battlefield when the ability resolves, the exchange can’t happen and the ability will have no effect.”

Financial Thoughts:

H: No.

T: The combo hype is high with this one.

116 - $3.93

[mtg_card]Bedlam Reveler[/mtg_card] 6RR

Creature - Devil Horror - Rare

Chaos Reveler costs 1 mana less to cast for each instant or sorcery card in your graveyard.

Prowess (Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, this creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.)

When Chaos Reveler enters the battlefield, discard your hand, then draw three cards.

3/4

Initial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: Alright, I'll play ball on this one. This might be the best burn card printed since [mtg_card]Goblin Guide[/mtg_card], [mtg_card]Vexing Devil[/mtg_card], or [mtg_card]Eidolon of the Great Revel[/mtg_card]. Slam the burn, empty the hand, play this for 3 to refill, then kill them with more burn. I really like this and think it could see play in Legacy and Modern.

Tok: Agree I like that. Basically better/worse Delve right?

H: Better than Delve in the long game, worse in the short game. Hard to build up more than 3 instant/sorceries in T2. I can see it playable on T3 for 3CMC.  At 2CMC at best. The really good part it you trash a bad hand for 3 cards.

Financial Thoughts:

H: Betting on this card is a gamble. It looks like a potentially broken card to me, since its effect is so close to Delve. Getting this down to cost RR on T2 is nothing. It fills both the yard and hand then smashes really hard. But at $4, I’m not sure I’m willing to jump on. I’d probably hold off, fully understanding that I could get burned for that decision.

T: I’m boarding the hype train for this one mainly because UR Horrors sounds like a deck. It probably won’t be though.

H: Worth noting that I think this the red intro deck card, so that might drive down prices on this.

T: [mtg_card]Assembled Alphas[/mtg_card] is the red intro pack rare with [mtg_card]Silverfur Partisan[/mtg_card] being the off color rare in that pack. Bedlam Reveler is in the blue [mtg_card]Niblis of Frost[/mtg_card] intro pack.

H: Ah, my mistake. Still point stands. It’s in an intro pack.

123 - $1.86

[mtg_card]Collective Defiance[/mtg_card] 1RR

Sorcery - Rare

Escalate 1 (Pay this cost for each mode chosen beyond the first.)

Choose one or both -

* Target player discards all cards in his or her hand, then draws that many cards.

* Collective Defiance deals 4 damage to target creature.

* Collective Defiance deals 3 damage to target opponent.

Initial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: If this was an instant, it would be bonkers. I do think this is really good. Against control you can roll their hand, kill a creature, or slam the face. All effects are worth the 1 extra mana while giving you the utility to play it cheaper.

Financial Thoughts:

H: A $2 price tag is a bit high. But this is a card that should see some play. It does way too much. Should be good against a control deck sitting on mass pile of cards.

130 - $3.19

[mtg_card]Hanweir Garrison[/mtg_card] 2R

Creature - Human Soldier - Rare

Whenever Hanweir Garrison attacks, put two 1/1 red Human creature tokens onto the battlefield tapped and attacking.

(Melds with Hanweir Battlements.)

"We're ready for anything"

2/3

///

[mtg_card]Hanweir, the Writhing Township[/mtg_card]

Legendary Creature - Eldrazi Ooze

Trample, haste

Whenever Hanweir, the Writhing Township attacks, put two 3/2 color Eldrazi Horror creature tokens into the battlefield tapped and attacking.

7/4

Initial Thoughts:

Tok: I suspect it fits in WR Humans, works well with [mtg_card]Thalia's Lieutenant[/mtg_card]. Play Thalia’s Lieutenant after attacks on turn 4 to spread +1/+1 counters to the human tokens or before attacks to benefit from the two humans entering the battlefield. Been likened to [mtg_card]Hero of Bladehold[/mtg_card], I'll say more like [mtg_card]Brimaz, King of Oreskos[/mtg_card] due to lack of anthem effect, worse on defense but also not legendary. Good card methinks. Notice i havent mentioned meld... Do we mention that? Do we care?

Hidsnake: This card is bonkers to me. The fact it isn't legendary like Brimaz, King of Oreskos makes it better than Brimaz to me. The fact it combos with Thalia’s Lieutenant make it nuts. I'd be all on in this card. The meld side is really good too, but the question is, is it worth it to play the mediocre land to get it to flip?

Tok: Maybe Singleton?

Hidsnake: /shrug. I would only play the land if I had something bigger to give haste to. Which I don't think this fits in.

Financial Thoughts:

H: I suspect this is going to see quite a bit of Standard play. Just from the front side. I think the Melded version is irrelevant mostly. Only because the front is so good, and [mtg_card]Hanweir Battlements[/mtg_card] is kinda meh and probably not worth a slot. I’ll be honest, $3 is probably fair for this.

T: I like the way you round, and I don’t disagree. I liked Hero of Bladehold so this may be my nostalgia talking, but this card seems pretty good and $3 seems like a good price for this.

H: If [mtg_card]Goblin Rabblemaster[/mtg_card] was a $20 card, this could be a $10 easy. I feel like this card deserves a bit of ink spilled about it. Feels format defining.

131 - $1.29

[mtg_card]Harmless Offering[/mtg_card] - 2R

Sorcery - Rare

Target Opponent gains control of target permanent you control.

Initial Thoughts:

Tok: Tool for crazy [mtg_card]Demonic Pact[/mtg_card] decks probably. [mtg_card]Goldnight Castigator[/mtg_card] is another target especially if you can tap it before sending it over so it can’t block. As for fringe/unplayable jank there is,
WARNING: Unplayable Jank incoming:
[mtg_card]Priest of the Blood Rite[/mtg_card] - Keep a 5/5 demon they can have the 2/2
[mtg_card]Mindwrack Demon[/mtg_card] - If you can block the 4/5 flyer and they don’t have delirium
[mtg_card]Avaricious Dragon[/mtg_card] - Against control throwing the dragon at your opponent’s hand and then removing it on your turn sounds great in magical x-massland.

Hidsnake: So much unplayable jank in this card.

Financial Thoughts:

H: This will probably hold around $1-$2. This is because…well…look at that art! Foils are what I might look to get into if I can get any cheap. Right now they are at $6.50. Seems like an OK price. I’d look to hold on to them until they hit over $10.

T: I’m surprised this is under $3 much less under $1.50. The casual donate stuff deck potential is high with this one. I also expect every [mtg_card]Zedruu the Greathearted[/mtg_card] commander deck to have a copy.

136 - $4.03

[mtg_card]Mirrorwing Dragon[/mtg_card] - 3RR

Creature – Dragon – Mythic

Flying

Whenever a player casts an instant or sorcery spell that targets only Mirrorwing Dragon, that player copies that spell for each other creature he or she controls that the spell could target. Each copy targets a different one of those creatures.

4/5

Initial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: Dies to [mtg_card]Doom Blade[/mtg_card]. And takes down your army with it. Savage against midrange decks and aggro. Not so good against control.

Tok: That's pretty spicy. Kind of wish it had Haste for 5 mana...

H: I think Haste makes it too good against control, an obvious weakness of the card. Help balance out how absurd it is against midrange.

Financial Thoughts:

H: I honestly don’t know here. It’s has a good size and a reasonable protection ability that can cause some chaos with your opponent. But I’m unsure if this card is worth a slot. In the format. This card will either show up and blow up, or die out completely. There is no middle ground here. My advice would be if you find any, keep them. But don’t buy any unless you plan on play them. Reasonable trades are probably a good idea too. I wouldn’t make any monetary deals unless you are comfy with it backfiring.

T: I hear what you’re saying, but this is a mythic for $4 in a Standard environment where cards that care about dragons are still legal. It’s a dragon on curve with [mtg_card]Thunderbreak Regent[/mtg_card]. It’s another [mtg_card]Zada, Hedron Grinder[/mtg_card] for the Zada deck that never got off the ground, and it’s also on curve with that. Any removal wipes the opponent’s board. If after all of that unplayable jank you still aren’t convinced… You probably are a rational human being with an understanding of MTG, as for me 4X PLAYSET BABY WOOHOO!

H: I guess this is still decent card if I can get value off of [mtg_card]Draconic Roar[/mtg_card] off it. But that isn’t going to last much longer. I’m not sure how apt the Zada, Hedron Grinder comparison is. Deckbuilding for Zada strategies made you put a lot of chaff into important card slots. This doesn’t.

T: 4X PLAYSET BEBE. WOO. Muthafuggin. HOOOooo…

H: Breath bro.

137 - $4.23

[mtg_card]Nahiri’s Wrath[/mtg_card] - 2R

Sorcery - Mythic

As an additional cost to cast Nahiri's Wrath, discard X cards.

Nahiri's Wrath deals damage equal to the total converted mana cost of the discarded cards to each of up to X target creatures and/or planeswalkers.

Initial Thoughts:

Tok: Doesn’t go face. Color me unimpressed.

Financial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: Too much. I don’t expect my play here for Standard. If it did see play it would be in a [mtg_card]Skred[/mtg_card] style deck, a very fringe deck in Modern.

T: Doesn’t. Go. Face.

H: Skred decks get around that by playing [mtg_card]Boros Reckoner[/mtg_card]. Also worth noting that this card never gives you card advantage. You always use at least +1 cards to get rid of your opponent’s creatures/planeswalkers.

155 - $9.40

[mtg_card]Eldritch Evolution[/mtg_card] - 1GG

Sorcery - Rare

As an additional cost to cast Eldritch Evolution, sacrifice a creature.

Search your library for a creature card with converted mana cost X or less, where X is 2 plus the sacrificed creature's converted mana cost. Put that card onto the battlefield, then shuffle your library. Exile Eldritch Evolution.

Initial Thoughts:

Tok: I... Think... I'll... Buy... 4?

Reddit comments: Turn 3 [mtg_card]Matter Reshaper[/mtg_card] -> Turn 4 [mtg_card]Elder Deep-Fiend[/mtg_card] on their upkeep, tap their lands -> Turn 5 attack for 5 and tutor up [mtg_card]Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger[/mtg_card].

Hidsnake: Would you 4x it in Abzan Company and at the cost of [mtg_card]Collected Company[/mtg_card]? Probably not, but I'd at least play a few. This card is insane and I can think of 3 Modern decks that would play it now. Legacy has [mtg_card]Natural Order[/mtg_card] which is almost certainly better.

T: I think it augments coco lists. Someone did a test on reddit a while ago and seemed impressed with the performance. Sacing a dork for your 2-3 mana creatures is normally good. In my mind it could be the bastard love child of [mtg_card]Food Chain[/mtg_card] and [mtg_card]Birthing Pod[/mtg_card]. Blowout 2 for one yourself potential is high though.

H: In reality, I think this is more like Natural Order than Food Chain. Which makes it all the more absurd.

Financial Thoughts:

H: I expect the path of this card to follow the [mtg_card]Chord of Calling[/mtg_card] reprint in M15. That card came out at $10, and was below $5 six months later. It only spiked to $14 once the print run was finished. So for now, I’d hold off for a better price. No doubt, if you buy this now, I do expect you to make a profit off it. It’s really freaking good. But during its printing it should drop. It’s only a rare, remember that.

T: I don’t see it going over $10 during its print run so there isn’t any shame in holding off unless you need it for a deck. Either way I, like hidsnake, expect it to be $14 eventually. Definitely get a playset before the next set comes out.

162 - $3.92

[mtg_card]Ishkanah, Grafwidow[/mtg_card] - 4G

Legendary Creature - Spider - Mythic

Reach

Delirium - When Ishkanah, Grafwidow enters the battlefield, if there are four or more card types among cards in your graveyard, put three 1/2 green Spider creature tokens with reach onto the battlefield.

6B: Target opponent loses 1 life for each Spider you control.

3/5

Initial Thoughts:

Tok: 5 mana for 6 power over 4 bodies… Yeah, I’m in. Bring on the jank BG Delirium [mtg_card]The Gitrog Monster[/mtg_card] decks.

Financial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: Just shot up $1 in past 2 days. I think it still might be low. This is a Commander all-star. Fits in many different decks. Should see play in Standard, where it puts a massive amount of power and a bunch of blockers into the board along with a method of winning stalled board states. Fits into the curve and style of token so well. I’ve even heard people

T: I too have heard people. (<- Erase that if you finish your thought there. ^) The fact that it went up $1 makes me wary, but I think it will drop a bit right after release only to go back up if someone plays it in front of a camera.

H: It’s important to listen to the people. This card did shoot up again during the time we’ve spent working on this post.

H: I’m not fixing my mistake. Do shit live.

170 - $0.89

[mtg_card]Spirit of the Hunt[/mtg_card] - 1GG

Creature - Wolf Spirit - Rare

Flash

When Spirit of the Hunt enters the battlefield, each other creature you control that's a Wolf or a Werewolf gets +0/+3 until end of turn.

3/3

Initial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: I like this. Provide werewolves with 2 flash buff spells in this and [mtg_card]Howlpack Resurgence[/mtg_card].

Tok: Is also a spirit for [mtg_card]Rattlechains[/mtg_card] to protect. [mtg_card]Assault Formation[/mtg_card] is still standard legal right? Big Booty Wolves deck inbound!

Financial Thoughts:

H: If werewolves is a thing, I guarantee this will be a premier card in that deck and jump to about $2 I imagine. Otherwise, it isn’t going anywhere. Price can’t really go much lower.

T: I’ll get it for casual jank much like I did with Rattlechains when that was $0.25 and look at that now. That’s cause Rattlechains was always a good card by itself, this one needs friends so I don’t expect this will get higher than $1 unless there is a werewolves deck. I was joking about Assault Formation, don’t do that.

H: Your obsession is Assault Formation is nuts. Why don’t you play [mtg_card]Doran, the Siege Tower [/mtg_card]in Modern?

T: Cause CoCo combo is more fun.

181 - $1.25

[mtg_card]Bloodhall Priest[/mtg_card] - 2BR

Creature - Vampire Cleric - Rare

Whenever Bloodhall Priest enters the battlefield or attacks, if you have no cards in hand, Bloodhall Priest deals 2 damage to target creature or player.

Madness 1BR

4/4

Initial Thoughts:

Tok: Another of the "Will they? Won't they?" cards that have people speculating about vamp tribal are talking about. Probably won't be a thing until new [mtg_card]Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded[/mtg_card] is spoiled (/s). People missing the fact that it's a Cleric for Modern Cleric tribal (/s)

Hidsnake: I mean a 4/4 for 3CMC is really good. The fact it comes with a titan trigger is pretty crazy. I think it's possible that even without the Madness this could be a good card. It's too big for most removal and beats down on White Weenie strats, picking off creatures left and right. It’s similar to [mtg_card]Olivia Voldaren[/mtg_card] in that way.

Financial Thoughts:

H: At $1.25, this seems really good buy. Even if vampires isn’t a thing in Standard, Commander and casual play should hold this up. It’s a popular tribe, and this is a really strong card.

T: I agree and will be getting a playset.

183 - $4.82

[mtg_card]Gisa and Geralf[/mtg_card] - 2UB

Legendary Creature – Human Wizard - Mythic

When Gisa and Geralf enters the battlefield, put the top four cards of your library into your graveyard.

During each of your turns, you may cast a Zombie creature card from your graveyard.

4/4

Initial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: Does Standard even have any playable Zombies besides [mtg_card]Relentless Dead[/mtg_card]?

Tok: [mtg_card]Prized Amalgam[/mtg_card] maybe? Honestly, not really.

Financial Thoughts:

H: I got to the point in my initial thoughts. There really isn’t a good zombie to play with this. Relentless Dead already has a reanimation ability. It’s a powerful ability. I’d toss it in my cube or try to make a nice casual deck with it. I guess it’s OK in Commander. I’m not really thrilled with a $5 pricepoint. I’d probably hold onto one I find for personal use, but really wouldn’t care to have more.

184 - $11.51

[mtg_card]Grim Flayer[/mtg_card] - BG

Creature - Human Warrior - Mythic

Trample

Whenever Grim Flayer deals combat damage to a player, look at the top three cards of your library. Put any number of them into your graveyard and the rest back on top of your library in any order.

Delirium - Grim Flayer gets +2/+2 as long as there are four or more card types among cards in your graveyard.

2/2

Initial Thought:

Hidsnake: So, pretty much worse than [mtg_card]Sylvan Advocate[/mtg_card]. At least IMO. Not impressed.

Tok: I think any deck playing this would also play Sylvan Advocate to be honest.

Financial Thoughts:

H: Not better than Sylvan Advocate. Should be better once Sylvan Advocate rotates almost a year from now. I expect this to tank hard around the winter. Might even hit bulk mythic levels.

T: I had no idea this was mythic. Pass.

H: It’s funny you bring that up. There was some talk that this card was originally a legendary creature during development, but wanted it to be pushed for competitive play. So they made it normal creature and probably weakened some of the abilities to do so. So you end up with this unique mythic creature that isn’t really that good.

189 - $8.07

[mtg_card]Spell Queller[/mtg_card] - 1WU

Creature - Spirit - Rare

Flash

Flying

When Spell Queller enters the battlefield, exile target spell with converted mana cost 4 or less.

When Spell Queller leaves the battlefield, the exiled card's owner may cast that card without paying its mana cost.

2/3

Initial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: Huh. That's a card. I really don't know what to say. This card is kinda crazy and I have no idea the consequences of this card. But as it stands, it's basically a counterspell on a flying stick for nearly every card played in Modern and Legacy. 3CMC is a bit much for Legacy, but I guess this is Modern playable in some deck. Also worth nothing this can be a counterspell in the very old Temur Pod deck. You could make a Temur Chord deck with this I suppose. This card has some variance to whatever ranking I give to it.

Tok: Eldrazi. Processors.

Financial Thoughts:

H: Just because a card is cool and crazy, doesn’t mean I’ll shove out $8 for it. It is very good though. I expect it to hold a high price. Maybe in the $5 area. It could even see some play outside Standard.

T: I expect the price to drop after the set comes out. If not… Meh. It’s a cool flashy skill, but other things counter better.

H: But this flies around on a stick. [mtg_card]Spellstutter Sprite[/mtg_card] costs one less, but isn’t as consistent a counter.

T: Ok you talked me out of my “Meh.” I still won’t buy any at $8.

H: /thumbsup

190 - $23.11

[mtg_card]Tamiyo, Field Researcher[/mtg_card] – 1WUG

Planeswalker - Tamiyo - Mythic

+1: Choose up to two target creatures. Until your next turn, whenever either of those creatures deals combat damage, you draw a card.

-2:Tap up to two target nonland permanents. They don't untap during their controller's next untap step.

-7: Draw three cards. You get an emblem with "You may cast nonland cards from your hand without paying their mana costs."

4 Loyalty

Initial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: Whoa. This is bananas. You can even +1 on opponents creatures. All three abilities are relevant. Should be a defining card in Standard. Do think the colors are a tad awkward. Do think she could see play in pretty much any type of deck; aggro, midrange, or control.

Tok: Bant CoCo will probably play it.

Financial Thoughts:

H: I still think this is nuts.  Probably will hold at $20. Might even go up. I’ve heard talk that she is good in Modern and might even be good in Legacy. Hard for me to say buy at $23, but I certainly wouldn’t sell just yet. The only thing that could hold this card back is its colors.

T: Card says combat damage on it. You can use that on opponent’s critters protecting the ability from removal and block them to get the card draw, or let them hit Tams and get the card draw, or your opponent holds them back and you gain tempo and that’s just her +1. Card is good. $23 is a bit steep, though it is the going rate for plainswalkers and good mythics.

191 - $4.49

[mtg_card]Ulrich of the Krallenhorde[/mtg_card] - 3RG

Legendary Creature - Human Werewolf - Mythic

Whenever this creature enters the battlefield or transforms into Ulrich of the Krallenhorde, target creature gets +4/+4 until end of turn.

At the beginning of each upkeep, if no spells were cast last turn, transform Ulrich of the Krallenhorde.

4/4

///

[mtg_card]Ulrich, Uncontested Alpha[/mtg_card]

Legendary Creature - Werewolf - Mythic

Whenever this creature transforms into Ulrich, Uncontested Alpha, you may have it fight target non-Werewolf creature you don’t control.

At the beginning of each upkeep, if a player cast two or more spells last turn, transform Ulrich, Uncontested Alpha.

6/6

Initial Thoughts:

Tok: This is not [mtg_card]Huntmaster of the Fells[/mtg_card], but it is better than people on reddit claim.

Financial Thoughts:

Hidsnake: Not worth $4.50. I think it might be Standard playable. The hate on it from the Commander community makes Ulrich sad.

203 - $1.42

[mtg_card]Geier Reach Sanitarium[/mtg_card]

Legendary Land

(T): Add (C) to your mana pool.

(2)(T): Each player draws a card, then discards a card.

Initial Thoughts:

Tok: This is fun with a [mtg_card]Notion Thief[/mtg_card].

Hidsnake: Card is deceptively good. It's a solid Madness enabler that doesn't go away. Provides colorless mana. Is cheaper, colorless alternative to [mtg_card]Desolate Lighthouse[/mtg_card].

Financial Thoughts:

H: This is a Commander card. I expect it to get play nowhere else except some Madness deck in need of perpetual Madness. So a $1 price is probably fair.
