Release Date - November 11, 2016
Official Three-Letter Code - C16
Twitter Hashtag - #MTGC16
MSRP - $34.99 (per deck)
The set will feature five four-color, 100-card Commander decks, along with 56 new Magic cards legal in Eternal formats (Vintage and Legacy) but not legal in Standard, Block Constructed, or Modern:
NOTE: All prices are TCG Market price taken on 11/10/2016.
Hidsnake: I don’t really play much Commander. I’m often much more interested how new cards will impact constructed formats. Since cards from this set are only legal in Legacy and Vintage, they typically means not much impact. But I do run a nice little cube, so I tend to keep an eye on creative and interesting cards for that format. I’ll probably not focus too much on the fiscal aspect then unless I see fit.
[mtg_card]Breya, Etherium Shaper[/mtg_card] learned to command powerful works of artifice on the Esper shard of Alara. Her mastery of lightning and expertise with etherium enable her to unlock the full potential of her creations and overwhelm her foes.
Hidsnake: Invent Superiority is an artifact themed deck led by [mtg_card]Breya, Etherium Shaper[/mtg_card]. As such, it contains quite few artifacts that see play across multiple formats. Far more than even I expected. Only a few worth decent money though in [mtg_card]Baleful Strix[/mtg_card] and [mtg_card]Master of Etherium[/mtg_card]. The bigger point is the sheer number of popular commanders in the deck. That includes the new and stupidly priced [mtg_card]Silas Renn, Seeker Adept[/mtg_card], [mtg_card]Sharuum the Hegemon[/mtg_card], and [mtg_card]Godo, Bandit Warlord[/mtg_card].
Creature - Faerie Artificer - Rare
Flying
Whenever a nontoken creature enters the battlefield under an opponent’s control, create a token that’s a copy of that creature except it’s an artifact in addition to its other types. Then exile all other tokens created with Faerie Artisans.

TCG MP: $1.81
Hidsnake: You know what there are a lot of in Commander games? Enter the battlefield trigger. This gets you all of them. ALL OF THEM. This is a sleeper in blue Commander decks.
Tok: Seems really fun especially if you can blink your opponent’s creatures with [mtg_card]Eldrazi Displacer[/mtg_card]/[mtg_card]Flicker[/mtg_card]/[mtg_card]Long Road Home[/mtg_card]/[mtg_card]Mistmeadow Witch[/mtg_card]/[mtg_card]Otherworldly Journey[/mtg_card]/[mtg_card]Skybind[/mtg_card]/[mtg_card]Turn to Mist[/mtg_card]/[mtg_card]Voidwalk[/mtg_card]/[mtg_card]Voyager Staff[/mtg_card]. Add in some of your own enter the battlefields and you start to form a nice flicker deck. AKA the “No fun keep your own things anti-goat ([mtg_card]Zedruu the Greathearted[/mtg_card])” deck.
Hidsnake: I just realized something that made me look something up. Kaladesh started a new thing of “create tokens” instead of saying “put tokens into the battlefield.” Is create a new shorthand? Is that in the rules now? It wouldn’t be something new to MTG, as they made “dies” shorthand for “put into a graveyard from play.”
Hidsnake: In a personal habit of having discussions with myself, I would be correct. It’s shorthand template for “put into the battlefield.”
Tok: Clearly.
Creature - Human Wizard - Rare
2B, T: Exile Magus of the Will: Until end of turn, you may play cards from your graveyard. If a card would be put into your graveyard from anywhere this turn, exile that card instead.
3/3
TCG MP: $7.74
Hidsnake: Oh swell, [mtg_card]Yawgmoth’s Will[/mtg_card] on a stick. A card banned in pretty much every format. So this card is straight nuts in Commander, where it was made for. But it’s a bit pricey for Legacy play methinks. Only some absurd reanimator strategy combined with dredge or [mtg_card]Past in Flames[/mtg_card] deck. I’m pretty sure dredge and Past in Flames is better. I suspect this is probably going to be the most expensive card in all of Commander 2016 in the long run since so many Commander decks can get great value from it.
Legendary Creature - Kor Soldier Ally - Rare
First Strike, vigilance
Akiri, Line-Slinger gets +1/0 for each artifact you control.
Partner
0/3
TCG MP: $2.45
Hidsnake: This would have been cool if Tiny Commander was still a thing. Otherwise, the only interesting parts of this are that it’s a soldier and ally. I could see it as a possibility in Legacy Death and Taxes style deck where you could pile on top of the [mtg_card]Aether Vial[/mtg_card]s and [mtg_card]Phyrexian Revoker[/mtg_card]s, but the deck would need a massive turnover of card to fit it.
Tok: Would be cool in Tiny Commander since partner would let you run a 4C deck. Why would you want to run a 4C deck? I don’t know you’re the crazy maverick who decided to run a 4C tiny commander deck, not me. She seems fun with [mtg_card]Hangarback Walker[/mtg_card] or other similar ways to get infinite artifacts on the board. Built in [mtg_card]Cranial Plating[/mtg_card] on a first striker with vigilance seems fun to try and build around though.
Legendary Artifact Creature - Human - Mythic Rare
When Breya, Etherium Shaper enters the battlefield, create two 1/1 blue Thopter artifact creature tokens with flying.
2, Sacrifice two artifacts: Choose one -
4/4
TCG MP: $3.47
Hidsnake: I’ll be honest. Not too impressed. Since it’s not green, you can’t [mtg_card]Doubling Season[/mtg_card] a pile of artifact tokens into play. Cool art though.
Tok: Yeah you need ways to generate a bunch of tokens, I suppose you could try to do the [mtg_card]Thopter Foundry[/mtg_card]/[mtg_card]Sword of the Meek[/mtg_card] combo or something, but I mean we’re talking about adding to an already OK combo by messing up the mana base even more. Meh.
Legendary Creature - Human Ally - Mythic
Whenever Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder enters the battlefield or attacks, target creature you control gains double strike and lifelink until end of turn.

3/3
TCG MP: $1.32
Hidsnake: "I shall teach you Double Strike and Lifelink for these techniques have been passed down the Armstrong line for generations!” OK, I done with terrible references. This card is dumb. Unless you play a deck built around combat damage triggers, I don’t know why you would play this. Maybe a bad lifegain deck.
Tok: I’m not impressed (Queue manly tears).
Sorcery - Uncommon
Put target creature card from a graveyard onto the battlefield under your control. It gains haste.
Basic landcycling 2
TCG MP: $0.58
Hidsnake: Sure. Takes from any graveyard and gives haste. Probably fun.
Tok: Yeah, seems fine.
Sorcery - Uncommon
Create four 1/1 white Bird creature tokens with flying.
Basic landcycling 2
TCG MP: $0.21
Hidsnake: Flying army in a can. Will see play in someone’s token Commander deck.
Tok: So, it’s Call from [mtg_card]Beck // Call[/mtg_card]? For one mana less? Cool.
Legendary Artifact Creature - Human - Mythic Rare
Deathtouch
Whenever Silas Renn, Seeker Adept deals combat damage to a player, choose target artifact card in your graveyard. You may cast that card this turn.

TCP MP: $2.34
Hidsnake: Another cool card if Tiny Commander was still a thing. Similar to [mtg_card]Glissa, the Traitor[/mtg_card] but probably easier to trigger. Glissa, the Traitor is a very popular Commander, but is in the wrong colors for an artifact deck. I think it has good potential to hold its price. I don’t expect it to see play outside Standard. It requires combat to happen to do anything.
Tok: Deathtouch makes him pretty interesting, attacking into blockers shouldn’t be an issue since his trigger is on combat damage. He can play himself over and over again too.
Land
T: Add C to your mana pool.
Basic landcycling 1
TCG MP: $1.26
Hidsnake: This is probably a really good land in Commander. In the early game it can fix, and in the late game it can be a colorless land. Should be pretty standard. I don’t think it’s good enough for constructed play.
Rare
TCG MP: $0.24
Hidsnake: Fun card in multiplayer formats.
Tok: Dies to [mtg_card]Doom Blade[/mtg_card].
Hidsnake: I hate you.
Mythic Rare
TCG MP: $2.55
Hidsnake: First time this card has been reprinted. Seems like a good card for Commander. I suspect the price will drop a decent bit since it’s been so long from the last time we saw it.
Rare
TCG MP: $5.95
Hidsnake: The price on this card is very meta dependant. When affinity decks in Modern start having success running this, it’s a $15 card. Otherwise it’s a $5 card. I find them worth to pull the trigger on when price is low. Meta shifts are very common in Modern.
Rare
TCG MP: $0.29
Hidsnake: First old art printing in modern borders.
Tok: Praise wizards for that.
Mythic Rare
TCG MP: $2.57
Hidsnake: Mildly surprised this is the only one of the commander planeswalkers that got a reprint. He is the cheapest of the bunch, so not much lost in reprinting him.
Rare
TCG MP: $1.18
Hidsnake: This is the first time this card has gotten a reprint. It’s fairly popular among casual circles and Commander players, but the supply on near mint and lightly played is very low. This should really help with the supply going forward. If you have one in decent condition, I’d unload ASAP. You probably still have some time on this one before the market sets itself.
Rare
TCG MP: $0.26
Uncommon
TCG MP: $0.15
Hidsnake: This is a pretty popular sweeper in Legacy and Modern. I secretly always worry it will jump from $0.50 to $5. So I’m happy to see an occasional reprint on this.
Uncommon
TCG MP: $3.55
Hidsnake: They just printed this as a rare in Conspiracy: Take the Crown. I know rarity means nothing in these prebuilt decks, but it's dumb to downshift rarity, upshift it, then downshift only two months later. Whatever. It costs too much anyway. I’ll take any reprint I can get. This card is awesome in Legacy and Cube and shouldn’t cost $10 a pop like it has before.
Rare
TCG MP: $1.54
Hidsnake: This is the new art they gave to the judge promo awhile back. I suspect this card will be hard sought for for Commander players looking to get shiny, new arts but can’t afford the judge promo. Has good potential to skyrocket and already pretty high in price.
Rare
TCG MP: $0.22
Mythic Rare
TCG MP: $0.85
Hidsnake: Little sad on this reprint. The card has been reprinted numerous times, dragging the price into the mud. They could have done used the art that was used in the From the Vault run, but without the shit foil and it would have been great and cheap. But no, let’s use the same art we’ve use all the other times.
Mythic Rare
TCG MP: $0.86
Hidsnake: As fun as this card looks, it’s not worth anything. You can get it for under $1 before the reprint.
Uncommon
TCG MP: $1.02
Hidsnake: Little surprised to see this. I bet Wizards thought that this card was going to hold $5 after [mtg_card]Sword of the Meek[/mtg_card] was unbanned in Modern. But the deck wasn’t that good. So it didn’t matter.
Rare
TCG MP: $0.44
Hidsnake: This crops up in Vintage and Legacy every once and awhile. Not enough to drive price as much a Commander has. Or I should say, not as much a Commander reprinting has crashed it.
Rare
TCG MP: $0.80
Hidsnake: It gets printed in all the Commander sets because idiots keep paying $20 for the old versions.
Rare
TCG MP: $0.67

Hidsnake: This is the new art from the duel decks. It’s much better art than the classic one. I’d look for this to do OK.
[mtg_card]Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder[/mtg_card] harnesses raw chaotic energy to obliterate his foes, channeling the Maelstrom at Alara's center. He cares little for long-term plans, preferring to unleash bursts of devastation upon anything in his path.
Hidsnake: If you want the deck that has all the fun card, this is it. I suspect it will be one of the more popular decks on release, but it won’t be the one on top for money purposes.
Sorcery - Rare
Choose target player and another target player. The first player controls the second player during the second player’s turn, and the second player control the first player during the first player’s turn.
TCG MP: $0.70
Creature - Goblin Rogue - Rare
First strike
At the beginning of each opponent’s end step, that player create a 1/1 red Goblin creature token with “Creatures you control attack each combat if able.”
TCG MP: $0.77
Tok: Seems cute in multiplayer games. The ability triggers at the beginning of each opponent's end step making it easy to remove him before he does anything.

Legendary Creature - Human Wizard - Mythic Spoiler
T: Add C to your mana pool for each card you’ve drawn this turn.

TCG MP: $3.30
Tok: [mtg_card]Brainstorm[/mtg_card] ramp I guess. On turn 4… Maybe with enough [mtg_card]Howling Mine[/mtg_card]s going around? Weak body with an interesting ability and high CMC. There is an infinite combo that can be done with her, I’ll let Hidsnake mention it since he showed it to me.
Hidsnake: [mtg_card]Umbral Mantle[/mtg_card]. That’s the one. Play a Brainstorm and not you have an infinite mana combo that makes an infinitely powerful creature. Not to mention comboing with another partner commander in this deck [mtg_card]Thrasios, Triton Hero[/mtg_card]. I’ve heard talk from Commander players that this could get banned very quickly.
Legendary Creature - Merfolk - Rare

Tok: So you have 2 chances to draw a card and if you whiff you ramp. Cool. Not 4 mana cool though.
Hidsnake: It a repeatable [mtg_card]Coiling Oracle[/mtg_card]. It a mana sink, something that anyone can use. Like [mtg_card]Kydele, Chosen of Kruphix[/mtg_card].

Whenever you cast your first spell each turn, Vial Smasher the Fierce deals damage equal to that spell’s converted mana cost to an opponent chosen at random.

TCG MP: #3.33
Tok: So [mtg_card]Treasure Cruise[/mtg_card]? Eight to the face and draw three cards? [mtg_card]Electrolyze[/mtg_card] killing off two tokens and doing bolt damage to the face? [mtg_card]Tasigur, the Golden Fang[/mtg_card] or [mtg_card]Gurmag Angler[/mtg_card] do 6 or 7 to the face and you get a fat dood to pressure the board with? An opponent chosen at random is likely going to be a detriment in multiplayer games, but in 1v1 games [mtg_card]Vial Smasher the Fierce[/mtg_card] can get damage to the face even in front of opponents that have hexproof. I like this card even if no one who plays Legacy will.
Hidsnake: I actually had to look up to see if that worked, which under the new rules for delve, I believe it does since delve is no longer a cost reduction effect. But ya, there is some hype among Commander players for this, but this could a card we see in Legacy because of how much pressure it seems to put down with delve cards.
Legendary Creature - Ogre Wizard - Mythic Rare
Trample
Whenever Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder deals combat damage to a player, as you cast spells from your hand this turn, they gain cascade.
5/4
TCG MP: $5.10
Tok: I love spinning that wheel, but the combat damage to a player requirement may be too prohibitive when you look at his toughness. Trample and 5 power makes it so you can probably get one cascade activation off him as he trades with 1-2 of your opponent’s creatures.
Hidsnake: Cascade on a stick. Yaaaaaa. This will find some love.
Artifact - Rare
T: Flip a coin. If you win the flip, destroy all nonland permanents.
TCG MP: $1.35

TCG MP: $2.03
Hidsnake: Super popular card in Commander. Non-damaged based removal in red is fairly rare.
Rare
TCG MP: $0.42
Tok: Seems fun in multiplayer games, especially with reanimator or flashback combos.
Hidsnake: It’s Dragon Mage. It’s just cool.
Mythic
TCG MP: $3.33
Tok: Did this need a reprint? Either way Past in Flames is a really fun card.
Hidsnake: Kinda? It in every storm combo deck out there. Price on it has never gotten out of hand, so I view this as a very progressive reprint meant to head off a buyout at some point.
Rare
TCG MP: $0.79
Tok: I tried to play 1-2 of these in an aggro deck during the core 2013 set as a way to restock my hand. The problem was they should have just been more burn spells. Works well in a deck with flashback/reanimator.
Rare
TCG MP: $1.50
Tok: There is a theme here…
Rare
TCG MP: $3.07
Tok: Great in multiplayer formats to dump all your lands quickly. Seems like a good choice with all of the “discard your hand, draw 7 more cards” spells in this deck.
Hidsnake: It’s popular in multiplayer formats, and I know many people were happy to see it reprinted in Conspiracy: Take the Crown. I’m surprised to see it here too, but I suppose they just want to totally tank the price, which I think is OK since the card isn’t significant in competitive formats.

Tok: The wheel keeps on turnin. Has a good butt for blocking and can save itself in case of a combat trick. Also, it spins the wheel.

Notable New Cards:
Creature - Elemental Ox - Rare
Haste
At the beginning of each player’s end step, if no creatures attacked this turn, put a fury counter on Charging Cinderhorn. The Charging Cinderhorn deals damage equal to the number of fury counters on it to that player.
4/2
TCG MP: $0.55
Tok: Come at me bro. Could have a place on some kitchen tables and commander games, but I don’t see any other play.
Creature - Avatar - Rare
Primeval Protector costs 1 less to cast for each creature your opponents control.
When Primeval Protector enters the battlefield, put a +1/+1 counter on each other creature you control.
10/10
TCG MP: $1.15
Tok: Cool, a 10/10 for 11-ish. If you are playing this for reduced cost you are probably already losing, the lack of trample makes me question if it would even be effective after playing him for reduced cost. If you can cast him for 4 CMC then there are 7 creatures on the board that can block it. In the rare case that you play him when you aren’t behind on board, he poops out a +1/+1 counter for all your creatures, which is one [mtg_card]Gavony Township[/mtg_card] activation… For 11 mana. Gonna be OK in multiplayer formats and nowhere else.
Hidsnake: Big, dumb shit is always popular somewhere. I like trading cards like this at local game stores, where someone inevitable overvalues it.
Creature - Centaur Warrior - Rare
Trample, indestructible
Whenever another creature you control attack, it gains trample and indestructible until end of turn.
8/8
TCG MP: $1.13
Tok: If Stonehoof Chieftain has a name, it’s Timmey. Trample and Indestructible on an 8/8 for 8 seems great especially when it shares those keyword abilities with it’s friends. Watch out for instant speed exile and bounce effects, but other than that keep calm and trample on.
Hidsnake: TIMMEH! Remember what I said about big, dumb stuff? Casuals at local game store always over value them in trades.

Less ideally she may be able to be supported with combat tricks and auras, but that opens the possibility of being 2-for-1’d so I would shy away from that.

[mtg_card]Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis[/mtg_card] believe harmony is the key to true power. They share the rewards of their unshakable bond among their supporters, building alliances before unleashing powerful haymaker spells against their enemies.
Hidsnake: I like to call this deck Free Hugs. It has no way to win, and in general makes it so no one can win. Because every play group has to have “that guy” whose only goal in life is to make everyone else around them as miserable as they are. While the main commander isn’t that interesting, the batch of partner commanders are very interesting and might drive some interest. Other interesting cards includes reprints [mtg_card]Selvala, Explorer Returned[/mtg_card] and [mtg_card]Edric, Spymaster of Trest[/mtg_card]. In honesty, this is probably the weakest of all the deck, but I believe the partner commander should prop the deck up enough to drive demand.

Hidsnake: This is the “please don’t hit me” commander. In a deck like this, it’s quite enjoyable as you get ignored and left to your devices to build whatever absurd combo you want. I don’t think it’s a good commander, but it’s a partner. So you get another shot at an actually good commander.

TCG MP: $1.84
Hidsnake: I’m not getting this deck, but I’ll probably buy this card. It has flanking, and ability old-skool players adore (Rightfully so, it’s awesome). Second, he is a knight. That is a very popular creature type for casual decks. Lastly, he synergies very well with some of the other partner commanders. [mtg_card]Silas Renn, Seeker Adept[/mtg_card], [mtg_card]Tana, the Bloodsower[/mtg_card], [mtg_card]Tymna the Weaver[/mtg_card], and [mtg_card]Ludevic, Necro-Alchemist[/mtg_card] all grant some sort of bonus on getting damage through and have 2 or less power. Even [mtg_card]Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder[/mtg_card] combos well with him by giving creatures that have combat damage triggers double strike. I think this will be a fairly good card from this set and totally worth getting even if you don’t get the deck.

Hidsnake: Pretty easily the the best of the new 4C commanders. Should see the most play and probably going to end up as one of the most expensive cards in the set. The deck is full of pretty popular cards for Commander in [mtg_card]Vorel of the Hull Clade[/mtg_card], [mtg_card]Cauldron of Souls[/mtg_card], and [mtg_card]Hardened Scales[/mtg_card]. What it lacks in competitive cards, it certainly makes up for in popular reprint targets for Commander players. Price on this deck is way over market price, so check yo Wal-Marts for this one.

NOTE: All prices are TCG Market price taken on 11/10/2016.
Preliminary Comments
Hidsnake: I don’t really play much Commander. I’m often much more interested how new cards will impact constructed formats. Since cards from this set are only legal in Legacy and Vintage, they typically means not much impact. But I do run a nice little cube, so I tend to keep an eye on creative and interesting cards for that format. I’ll probably not focus too much on the fiscal aspect then unless I see fit.
Invent Superiority
Notable New Cards:

[mtg_card]Magus of the Will[/mtg_card] - 2B - #14

[mtg_card]Breya, Etherium Shaper[/mtg_card] - WUBR - #29
Legendary Artifact Creature - Human - Mythic Rare

Meh.
[mtg_card]Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder[/mtg_card] - 2RW - #30

[mtg_card]Ash Barrens[/mtg_card] - #56

[mtg_card]Master of Etherium[/mtg_card] - #92
[mtg_card]Read the Runes[/mtg_card] - #95

[mtg_card]Godo, Bandit Warlord[/mtg_card] - #125

[mtg_card]Baleful Strix[/mtg_card] - #181
[mtg_card]Hanna, Ship’s Navigator[/mtg_card] - #203
Rare
TCG MP: $1.54
Hidsnake: This is the new art they gave to the judge promo awhile back. I suspect this card will be hard sought for for Commander players looking to get shiny, new arts but can’t afford the judge promo. Has good potential to skyrocket and already pretty high in price.
[mtg_card]Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer[/mtg_card] - #206

[mtg_card]Sharuum the Hegemon[/mtg_card] - #221

Hidsnake: Little sad on this reprint. The card has been reprinted numerous times, dragging the price into the mud. They could have done used the art that was used in the From the Vault run, but without the shit foil and it would have been great and cheap. But no, let’s use the same art we’ve use all the other times.
[mtg_card]Sydri, Galvanic Genius[/mtg_card] - #224

Hidsnake: If you want the deck that has all the fun card, this is it. I suspect it will be one of the more popular decks on release, but it won’t be the one on top for money purposes.
Notable New Cards:
[mtg_card]Cruel Entertainment[/mtg_card] - 6B - #11
Sorcery - Rare
Choose target player and another target player. The first player controls the second player during the second player’s turn, and the second player control the first player during the first player’s turn.

[mtg_card]Goblin Spymaster[/mtg_card] - 2R - #19
Creature - Goblin Rogue - Rare
First strike
At the beginning of each opponent’s end step, that player create a 1/1 red Goblin creature token with “Creatures you control attack each combat if able.”
TCG MP: $0.77
Tok: Seems cute in multiplayer games. The ability triggers at the beginning of each opponent's end step making it easy to remove him before he does anything.

[mtg_card]Thrasios, Triton Hero[/mtg_card] - UG - #46

[mtg_card]Vial Smasher the Fierce[/mtg_card] - 1BR - #49

[mtg_card]Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder[/mtg_card] - UBRG - #50
[mtg_card]Boompile[/mtg_card] - 4 - #52

T: Flip a coin. If you win the flip, destroy all nonland permanents.

[mtg_card]Chaos Warp[/mtg_card] - #122

TCG MP: $2.03
Hidsnake: Super popular card in Commander. Non-damaged based removal in red is fairly rare.
[mtg_card]Dragon Mage[/mtg_card] - #124
Rare
TCG MP: $0.42
Tok: Seems fun in multiplayer games, especially with reanimator or flashback combos.
Hidsnake: It’s Dragon Mage. It’s just cool.
[mtg_card]Past in Flames[/mtg_card] - #131
[mtg_card]Reforge the Soul[/mtg_card] - #132
Rare
TCG MP: $0.79
Tok: I tried to play 1-2 of these in an aggro deck during the core 2013 set as a way to restock my hand. The problem was they should have just been more burn spells. Works well in a deck with flashback/reanimator.
[mtg_card]Wheel of Fate[/mtg_card] - #138
Rare
TCG MP: $1.50
Tok: There is a theme here…
[mtg_card]Burgeoning[/mtg_card] - #143
[mtg_card]Wall of Blossoms[/mtg_card] - #175

Tok: Ouch in multiplayer formats, that counts all of the cards.
Hidsnake: This card never really dropped off in price after rotation. Things like that worry me sometimes. Good to see it reprinted.
[mtg_card]Etherium-Horn Sorcerer[/mtg_card] - #197

TCG MP: $0.66
Tok: The wheel keeps on turnin. Has a good butt for blocking and can save itself in case of a combat trick. Also, it spins the wheel.
Hidsnake: I was shocked to find out this card wasn’t even worth $1. It’s just such a cool card for Commander.
[mtg_card]Nath of the Gilt-Leaf[/mtg_card] - #213

[mtg_card]Saskia the Unyielding[/mtg_card] thrives in brutal combat, calling upon vicious hordes to crush her adversary underfoot. Saskia's strikes always find their mark, cleaving through any foe that stands between her and the focus of her fury.
Notable New Cards:

Creature - Elemental Ox - Rare

At the beginning of each player’s end step, if no creatures attacked this turn, put a fury counter on Charging Cinderhorn. The Charging Cinderhorn deals damage equal to the number of fury counters on it to that player.
4/2
TCG MP: $0.55
Tok: Come at me bro. Could have a place on some kitchen tables and commander games, but I don’t see any other play.
[mtg_card]Primeval Protector[/mtg_card] - 10G - #23
[mtg_card]Stonehoof Chieftain[/mtg_card] - 7G - #25

Hidsnake: Ya. A reanimation effect on a stick every turn sounds quite fun.
[mtg_card]Saskia the Unyielding[/mtg_card] - WBRG - #41
Legendary Creature - Human Soldier - Mythic Rare
Vigilance, haste
As Saskia the unyielding enters the battlefield, choose a player.
Whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to a player, it deals that much damage to the chosen player.
3/4
TCG MP: $2.59
Tok: The ability that lets you pick who is going to try the hardest to murder you this game!
Just for funsies pick an opponent with too many blockers for you to go through and attack an opponent without any. Congratulations, now two people would like to see your head on a metaphorical spike.
Hidsnake: If you are that guy who likes to whaag in Commander, this sure sounds good for you.
[mtg_card]Tana, the Bloodsower[/mtg_card] - 2RG - #45

Trample
Whenever Tana, the Bloodsower deals combat damage to a player, create that many 1/1 green Saproling creature tokens.

2/2
TCG MP: $1.52
Tok: Overpriced for a 2/2, the trample is nice and the subtype is relevant. To make full use she is going to need to be buffed by anthems and lords. Less ideally she may be able to be supported with combat tricks and auras, but that opens the possibility of being 2-for-1’d so I would shy away from that.
[mtg_card]Tymna the Weaver[/mtg_card] - 1WB - #48
Legendary Creature - Human Cleric - Rare

TCG MP: $0.76
Tok: Not as good as [mtg_card]Tarmogoyf[/mtg_card] in (any) most situations. I guess it can get bigger in some multiplayer formats. Of course it’s also like $0.50 (And if it’s not it should be) so it has that over Goyf.
[mtg_card]Alesha, Who Smiles at Death[/mtg_card] - #119

I don’t care if he will go to the graveyard anyway, you have to learn. OK, no seriously he’s OK even when he dies to Doom Blade. I mean sure he is dead, but he died drawing out a Doom Blade!
[mtg_card]Beastmaster Ascension[/mtg_card] - Rare
Rare
TCG MP: $0.66
Tok: I think you can cast this when you have 7 creatures and attack with all of them to get the buff. Pretty danger zone with tokens.

Stalwart Unity

Hidsnake: Now this is an interesting reprint. The card is banned in Legacy, which says quite a bit about it’s power level. Outside being stupid confusing, it’s a pretty fast way to get some stupid big into play or fill an entire graveyard with your deck.
[mtg_card]Tempt with Discovery[/mtg_card] - #170
Rare
TCG MP: $2.66
Hidsnake: Pretty much the same as [mtg_card]Collective Voyage[/mtg_card]. A popular card for Commander that is worth quite a bit.
[mtg_card]Veteran Explorer[/mtg_card] - #174
Uncommon
TCG MP: $0.95
Hidsnake: This is a super popular card in Commander and Legacy. That doesn’t have too many extensive printings. Fun to play, fun to keep around.
[mtg_card]Edric, Spymaster of Trest[/mtg_card] - #195
Rare
TCG MP: $0.63
Hidsnake: There is a reason that this card is constantly reprinted. It get play in pretty much every UG commander deck and even some fringe Legacy play. It’s also an elf and a rogue, two very popular creature subtypes. Price on this has crashed with all the reprints, but it’s still a popular card. If you were looking to grab one, this reprint might be a good time to grab it as a single.
[mtg_card]Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer[/mtg_card] - #202
Rare
TCG MP: $0.30
Hidsnake: This card is somewhatish popular in decks like this to gain control of other players so they don’t lose any valuable bombs they play. I don’t often see him as a commander, unless you are an asshole.
[mtg_card]Progenitor Mimic[/mtg_card] - #216
Mythic Rare
TCG MP: $1.60
Hidsnake: Wins games when resolves.
[mtg_card]Selvala, Explorer Returned[/mtg_card] - #220
Rare
TCG MP: $0.41
Hidsnake: Not a very popular card. Mana dorks that add RNG amounts of mana tend not to be very good.
[mtg_card]Zedruu the Greathearted[/mtg_card] - #231
Mythic Rare
TCG MP: $1.82
Hidsnake: Only crazy people play this card. It’s also been pretty expensive at times. Probably needed the reprint.
[mtg_card]Howling Mine[/mtg_card] - #257
Rare
TCG MP: $1.82
Hidsnake: Surprisingly pricey card. Fairly popular in Taking Turns deck in Modern and Commander.
[mtg_card]Keening Stone[/mtg_card] - #259
Rare
TCG MP: $1.29
Hidsnake: People actually play mill in Commander? That’s dumb.
[mtg_card]Psychosis Crawler[/mtg_card] - #267
Rare
TCG MP: $0.26
Hidsnake: This is the 3rd printing of this card in the past year. It’s a fun card as a dumb win condition and not much else.
[mtg_card]Sol Ring[/mtg_card] - #272
See previous decks.
[mtg_card]Venser’s Journal[/mtg_card] - #279
Rare
TCG MP: $2.41
Hidsnake: It’s similar to [mtg_card]Howling Mine[/mtg_card], or I should say, goes well with Howling Mine. No max hand size is pretty popular in Commander.
[mtg_card]Exotic Orchard[/mtg_card] - #295
See previous decks.
[mtg_card]Forbidden Orchard[/mtg_card] - #296
Rare
TCG MP: $4.11
Hidsnake: This is a pretty good money card. They are using the From the Vault art without the absurd foiling process, so this might have been fairly popular if the card wasn’t a Zendikar expedition too. But this should stick around a $5 card.
[mtg_card]Homeward Path[/mtg_card] - #301
Rare
TCG MP: $3.43
Hidsnake: Shame this only gets reprints in Commander sets. Worth quite a bit.
[mtg_card]Krosan Verge[/mtg_card] - #306
Uncommon
TCG MP: $1.12
Hidsnake: This type for fetchland has never seen a cycle before. It’s good in Commander but doesn’t see play anywhere else.
Breed Lethality
[mtg_card]Atraxa, Praetors' Voice[/mtg_card] serves as emissary for four of New Phyrexia's five praetors. The indomitable Atraxa's greatest strength is her power to spread the influence of Phyrexia, enhancing her armies while decimating the opposition.
Notable New Cards:
[mtg_card]Deepglow Skate[/mtg_card] - 4U - #7
Creature - Fish - Rare
When Deepglow Skate enters the battlefield, double the number of each kind of counter on any number of target permanents.
3/3
TCG MP: $8.45
Hidsnake: Huh. That’s pretty good. Blink it for go ham funsies. Weird color for the ability though.
[mtg_card]Atraxa, Praetors' Voice[/mtg_card] - WUBG - #28
Legendary Creature - Angel Horror - Mythic Rare
Flying, vigilance, deathtouch, lifelink
At the beginning of your end step, proliferate.
4/4
TCG MP: $8.78
Hidsnake: I said it in the start. Probably the most popular target for Commander players. Leads token decks, [mtg_card]Doubling Season[/mtg_card], Infect (You are an asshole BTW), and other deck revolving around counters on things. This card is going to be tough to reprint and I imagine will soak up most of the value of this deck.
[mtg_card]Ikra Shidiqi, the Usurper[/mtg_card] - 3BG - #32
Legendary Creature - Naga Wizards - Mythic Rare
Menace
Whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to a player, you gain life equal to that creature’s toughness.

Flying
Whenever an opponent casts a spell, put a +1/+1 counter on Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker.
Partner

TCG MP: $1.58
Hidsnake: This card is bad. [mtg_card]Managorger Hydra[/mtg_card] is pretty much outright better, having the more relevant Trample ability and adding counter for all spells instead of opponents.
[mtg_card]Migratory Route[/mtg_card] - 3WU - #38
See previous decks.
[mtg_card]Reyhan, Last of the Abzan[/mtg_card] - 1BG - #40
Legendary Creature - Human Warrior - Rare
Reyhan, Last of the Abzan enters the battlefield with three +1/+1 counters on it.
Whenever a creature you control dies or is put into the command zone, if it had one or more +1/+1 counters on it, you may put that many +1/+1 counters on target creature.
Partner
0/0
TCG MP: $2.47
Hidsnake: All creatures have Modular. /thumbsup. Unfortunately, the only batch of the partner commanders that look like they combo with it are [mtg_card]Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker[/mtg_card] and [mtg_card]Ravos, Soultender[/mtg_card]. So I’m not sure how far it will go.
[mtg_card]Crystalline Crawler[/mtg_card] - 4 - #54
Artifact Creature - Construct - Rare
Converge - Crystalline Crawler enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it for each color of mana spent to cast it.
Remove a +1/+1 counter from Crystalline Crawler: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.
T: Put a +1/+1 counter on Crystalline Crawler.
1/1
TCG MP: $2.04
Hidsnake: Some reasonable hype around this. Plenty of ways to use this as an absurd ramp spell for Commander. You can [mtg_card]Progenitus[/mtg_card] or [mtg_card]Door to Nothingness[/mtg_card] someone one turn 5-6 with it.
[mtg_card]Ash Barrens[/mtg_card] - #56
See previous decks.
Notable Reprints:
[mtg_card]Reveillark[/mtg_card] - #74
Rare
TCG MP: $3.65

[mtg_card]Scavenging Ooze[/mtg_card] - #166
Rare
TCG MP: $4.18
Hidsnake: The printing for Standard really killed the price on this card, but I suspect that one day the price will rebound. But that only if it doesn’t get reprint for awhile.
[mtg_card]Corpsejack Menace[/mtg_card] - #190
Rare
TCG MP: $0.58
[mtg_card]Ghave, Guru of Spores[/mtg_card] - #200

Hidsnake: This card has always been worth a decent bit of money.
[mtg_card]Vorel of the Hull Clade[/mtg_card] - #227
Rare
TCG MP: $0.27
Hidsnake: Very popular Commander. But the card isn’t worth anything. Massively overprinted in a terrible set.
[mtg_card]Spitting Image[/mtg_card] - #236
Rare
TCG MP: $0.65
Hidsnake: Retrace is one of the most ridiculous mechanics ever printed. In tokens decks this card is pretty popular.
[mtg_card]Cauldron of Souls[/mtg_card] - #246
Rare
TCG MP: $1.78
Hidsnake: This one is worth quite a bit and is really popular on the casual circles. This card should be one of the bigger price holders on this deck.
[mtg_card]Golgari Signet[/mtg_card] - #255
See previous decks.
[mtg_card]Orzhov Signet[/mtg_card] - #266

Hidsnake: All the signets have new art and are already worth a tiny bit of change.
[mtg_card]Simic Signet[/mtg_card] - #270

Rare
TCG MP: $1.50
Hidsnake: I had no idea this card was worth anything. [mtg_card]Doran, the Siege Tower[/mtg_card] is a pretty popular Commander, in this is a fetchable 3 color land. So I guess that makes sense.
[mtg_card]Sungrass Praire[/mtg_card] - #328
